Reducing claims
Independent third-party risk assessments provide you with an up-to-date snapshot of your operations and identify ways to reduce claims, which can ultimately save you money.
Our approach
Our long-term focus on the needs of small, medium-sized and specialist vessels has given us a wealth of expertise about the causes of loss and how to prevent them.
Our team carries out risk assessment surveys that analyse the likelihood and consequences of various hazards. We share detailed reports about the risks identified, as well as recommendations for improvements.
We offer three main types of survey:
- Ship surveys – pre-entry surveys before we accept a risk, entry surveys that are carried out within a specified timeframe, and follow-up surveys – for example, to review repairs.
- Towage approval surveys – if there is a tow to be carried out.
- Management visits – where we review your systems and operations and speak to senior staff to identify what you are doing well, and potential areas for improvement.
Our approach is not prescriptive or about ticking boxes; we deliberately use an open-ended survey form that encourages an in-depth approach to gathering information.
Surveys are carried out by our in-house team or by specialist third-party surveyors. Our team includes experienced mariners and engineers, who have also worked shore-side as managers. That means we understand your issues from every angle and appreciate the commercial pressures involved.
Finally, we share regular loss prevention and industry updates with assureds and are always on hand to provide guidance about risk reduction issues.
